Transform Your Mind Through Silent Meditation

Silence is a powerful inner resource. One way of observing silence is by refraining from communicating through words or gestures, and opening your awareness to the interconnectedness and unity of all that surrounds you. When I observe silence, I feel great solace and calmness. Silence alters my perceptions and makes order out of chaos. This is called silent meditation. The practice of silent or mantra meditation is another way of being silent. It allows you tap into that silence between your thoughts for greater access to your true Self. Lessening the chatter and quieting the mind is needed to be able to tune-in and listen on a deeper level. Sparks of inspiration, creative potentials, and happiness are found in the silence. Observing silence, known as Mauna in Sanskrit, is a way of transforming the mind. I enjoy leading and attending

Baby Boomers

Whenever I tell a baby boomer friend I’m writing a book, BANDSTAND DIARIES, about the Regulars who danced on American Bandstand in its Philadelphia heyday – 1957 to 1963 – I see a big smile appear. Fans of the daily dance show distinctly remember the names of teens like Arlene and Kenny, Bob and Justine, Carmen and Ivette, Frani Giordano, Carole Scaldiferri, Pat Molittieri, Billy Cook and the rest of the Regulars who danced and romanced across our grainy black-and-white television sets. This was the first time in American history that teenagers were so prominently featured for young and old to enjoy. And the one question on everyone’s lips is “Whatever Became of…?” That’s what I set out to answer some three years ago when, through the magic of Facebook, I was able to contact Arlene Sullivan. I told her

Ordinary Women of the World: Our Unsung Heroines

In honor of Fahmia Alfoith This 2016 International Women’s Month finds our half the sky, half full and half empty. But today, we want to focus on the “half full” as we celebrate and enjoy the extensiveness of women’s lives and rejoice on the extraordinary accomplishments of their ordinary existence. As mothers, daughters, sisters and friends, women are the caregivers, the teachers, and the healers of sick bodies and broken spirits. In the arts, they are the beauty behind the inspiration. In science, sports, and leadership women are as indomitable as men in the pursuit of their lives’ purposes. To men, women provide a safe harbor and the light of wisdom to reach their deepest dreams. To communities, women supply sustainable roots, energy and hope. In the world, they are its soul and peace keepers, planners behind the scenes and

The View That Keeps On Giving

When I first walked onto the terrace of what is now my home, overlooking the marina, the Intracoastal Waterway and the mighty Atlantic Ocean, I gasped. I could not believe the view that lay before me. Eight years later, I’m still gasping and pinching myself to see if this is a dream. When I finally catch my breath, here comes a whoosh of awe. Then, I surrender to a warm wave of gratitude. Sometimes I shout out to the Creator. Other times I just sit on my pillow in silence and revel in the magic I just beheld. As a rush of light climbs over the sea, I frantically grab my camera and do my best to capture this phenomenon that is the sunrise. My heart fills up and I harvest my photos onto the computer to share. This beauty

Color My World

Have you ever wondered why the colors you see emotionally move you as with a sunset or “speak” to you when choosing colors to decorate your home or add to your wardrobe? Have you ever gone to the market like I have and find yourself deciding what to buy by the color? Color is an energy vibration that changes us. How and why? Color is a universal, silent and soulful language. Colors contain information and convey different messages. Colors communicate. Society has used colors for social order where red means stop or danger as in “red alert”.   Green means go, yellow caution. Black can be elegant or express mourning. Colors may move us emotionally or spiritually like a beautiful sunset or breathtaking landscape. Colors also have the ability to heal while helping individuals reduce stress, and promote calm relaxation and
